Urge COVID Czar Zients to Expand Global Vaccine Supplies!

Dear friend,

The failure to expand global vaccine and treatment production is resulting in critical supply shortfalls around the world that are causing millions of needless deaths and allowing dangerous COVID variants to develop and spread.

As the Delta variant now surges globally, it is threatening progress your state and the nation have made to end the pandemic.

The past few weeks have shown us that there's no way for Americans to be safe from COVID while variants are allowed to rage throughout the world for lack of access to vaccines, test kits and medicines.

While access to COVID vaccines is increasingly widespread in communities across the United States, huge numbers of people in low- and middle-income countries across the globe are still expected to have to wait years for access to a COVID vaccine — unless global production is dramatically increased.

In May 2020, President Biden very commendably voiced his support for a "TRIPS waiver" at the WTO that would temporarily waive monopolies on COVID vaccines so that vaccines can be made in as many places as possible as quickly as possible. A number of other countries have followed his example. But a few rich nations, led by Germany and the European Union, continue to block the waiver.

To stop new COVID variants and to end the pandemic, Jeff Zients — the person President Biden chose to coordinate our domestic and international COVID response — needs to step up to the urgency of the moment.

Inaction on global access to vaccines and treatments is undermining the progress we've made on COVID-19, threatening ongoing health, economic and schooling crises at home — and millions of needless deaths around the globe.

Please join us in asking White House COVID Response Coordinator Jeff Zients to take urgent action to address the deadly global shortfalls of COVID vaccines and treatments.

Many thanks,
